Dmitry Usenco will give a talk springing from the poem “Bishop Blougram’s Apology” (1855) by Robert Browning and Cardinal Wiseman’s sermon at the opening of St Mary’s Catholic Church (1839). Another important source to look for and ideally have some knowledge of is Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s ‘Legend of the Grand Inquisitor’ (an inset story in his huge novel The Karamazov Brothers).

Dmitry’s talk is titled

‘Men have outgrown the shame of being fools’: Browning’s retaliation against ‘papal aggression

The poem can be found in the attached PDF Bishop Blougram’s Apology – Robert Browning.pdf

Cardinal Wiseman’s sermon at the opening of St Mary’s Catholic Church is also attached Wiseman_St_Mary_sermon.pdf

Dmitry will give his talk in Battersea but the meeting will also be on Zoom see SLPC Zoom Meeting
